Grade 5 STEM Trade Taster Days!

Knox Innovation Opportunity and Sustainability Centre (KIOSC), Swinburne and Healesville High School invited Grade 5 students from across the Outer East of Melbourne to participate in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Trade tasters.

The event, organised by the Outer Eastern Trade Training Alliance (OETTA) ran over 3 days, with over 400 young students participating. This is the second year OELLEN has partnered with the various groups and it proved to be another major success!

At Healesville High School, the participants were involved in both woodworking and automotive technology. The students made key ring holders and chopping boards which they took home.

At KIOSC, the participants had a wide range of opportunities including, engineering, electrotechnology, laboratory skills, ICT, health sciences, horticulture and photography.

A highlight of the day was using Virtual Reality headsets to do virtual plumbing! It was a blast for the children to be able to use cutting-edge technology to learn about trades.

A big thank you to the OETTA group and all the schools who participated. We're looking forward to next year's event!
