Hackers Hustlers and Hipsters - OELLEN x Girl Geek Academy
Hackers Hustlers and Hipsters - Education Week activity presented by OELLEN in partnership with the Victorian Department of Education and Training and the Girl Geek Academy.
A group of Year 9 girls from Maroondah and Yarra Ranges schools had a ball investigating the exciting world of technology and diversity of career pathways within the industry.
During the five hour session which was held at REALM on Ringwood, students planned and commenced development of an app; gained insight into cyber security and identifying hackers, the game making process and wide range of career options. The teams of girls came up with some wonderfully creative and useful apps and designed some exciting and quirky games. They’re certainly got a head start for potential careers in technology.
The Girl Geek Academy was co-founded by Sarah Moran, the current CEO who brought together a group of skilled women professionals to increase the number of women with successful STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) careers. The academy works with teachers, schools and corporates with initiatives including coding, 3D printing and wearables, game development, design, entrepreneurship and start-ups.
